WHAT IS PRECISE IMAGINATION?

We embrace projects that flex the imagination to combine art and engineering through careful research. Our goal is a kind of excellence that the Ancient Greeks called “Arete.”

A proverbial clean sheet of paper represents unbounded creative potential, but who hasn’t felt the equally unbounded challenge of where to begin with such creative freedom? Whatever rules one chooses to abide by in that creative moment impose constraints on the design process and present challenges that will require imagination to overcome. So, we ask, is there a more demanding design regime than the laws of the physical world? A more rigorous framework to creative expression? Technical authenticity requires even greater imagination to innovate solutions..

Precise Imagination is the expression of art in any form, of science and set free by the imagination.

Arete—a philosophical concept first espoused by Plato—is about making something as good as it is possible for it to be. It is a process of continuous improvement—not with the impossible goal of attaining perfection, but rather, with the realistic measure of leaving everything better than you found it. In the best of design, this means art and science find their natural, necessary, optimal balance, driven by the bounds of the creative space.
